Maurice Donald Petta, age 96, son of the late Vincent and Anna (Gosh) Petta was born December 4, 1925 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He passed away peacefully on January 11, 2022 in Sun Prairie where he had resided since October of 2021.

Maurice (Maury) married his high school sweetheart, Georgia Mae Kruger on October 18, 1947 and they were married for a loving 63 years. The couple had two daughters, Tammara (Dr. Warren) LeMay of Sun Prairie and Linda (Tim) Wadley of Capitola, California.

Maury proudly served our country as a U.S. Marine in WWII  from 1944-1946 primarily in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged as a corporal. He was privileged to go on an Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2012.

He attended Lincoln High school in Wisconsin Rapids and upon returning from the war attended Wausau Technical College.

Maury was a man of many talents and interests. He lived his life to the fullest and often remarked, “Every day is a plus”. He enjoyed and was proud of his career with Metcalf Lumber Company as Vice President and General Manager. He was a talented architectural draftsman, construction estimator and creative designer. Maury worked with the Metcalf family for 44 years.

Maury enjoyed spending time at his hobby farm with his horses, driving his Model A cars, wood crafting, CanAm Spyder motorcycle rides with his friends, antique collecting and anything that he and his beloved Georgia could do together. After her death Maury’s faithful golden retriever, Johnnie, was his constant companion.

Maury will always be remembered as a dedicated, kind, generous, wise, and loyal friend with a fabulous sense of humor. He never met a stranger and was the first in line to help anyone who needed it. Maury’s priority was always his family. His love for them was limitless as was his faith in God.

Besides his daughters and sons-in-law he is survived by grandchildren Aimee (Dan) Murphy, Matthew (Holly) LeMay, step granddaughter Abby Wadley, great grandson Shay Murphy and step great granddaughter Aliva Hale. He has one surviving sibling, his sister Delores (Tom) Spicer of Frisco, Texas and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Maury was predeceased by sisters Lorraine Jacoby, Marilyn Archuleta, Phyllis Ann Petta and brothers Robert and LaVerne.

The family wishes to thank Brighton Hospice of Madison and Hilltop Grand Village in Wisconsin Rapids for the kindness, care and support shown to Maury. We have lost a truly remarkable and loving man.
