Maureen Abar, 82, of Holiday City – Berkeley in Toms River, NJ, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018. Born Maureen Wigfall in Montclair, NJ, she grew up in East Orange, NJ and graduated from East Orange High School. Following graduation, she worked in the Accounting Department at Bell Telephone. She married James Abar in 1958 and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past February. Prior to moving to Toms River in 2000, she lived in Bloomfield, NJ and was a Claims Examiner for Chubb Insurance. Maureen was an active member of the Holiday City – Berkeley community. She was in the Bocce Club and served as Treasurer for several years. She also participated in two bowling leagues.

She enjoyed singing and was a member of the Melodiers singing group as well as the choir at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Toms River, where she was a parishioner. Maureen is survived by her husband, James Abar, her three children, Sharon Abar of Long Beach, CA, Kenneth Abar and his wife Tracy of Scotch Plains, NJ and Kathleen (Abar) Whaley and her husband Louis of Woodbury, NJ; her grandchildren, Dylan and Jamie Abar, and Samantha Whaley; and her brother-in-law, Joseph Scaturro of West Orange, NJ. She will be greatly missed.
