Mattye Louise Bartley Gum, 98, of Pendleton, passed away on March 31st at Rawlins House in Pendleton. She was born in Hart County, Kentucky on October 28, 1914 to Margie and Exter Bartley. The oldest of eight children, Mattye left home at age 16 to work in the home of Morris and Myrtie King.

She was married December 25, 1940 to Robert Bob Lewis Gum, Jr., of Larned, Kansas, who predeceased her on October 13, 1994. Bob and Mattye lived first in Larned and Great Bend, Kansas until moving to Anderson in 1958 with their daughter Mary Ann. While living in Anderson, Mattye worked for Colony Cage Egg Farm, a chicken business located on their Raible Avenue property.

She was an active member of Columbus Avenue Church of Christ. Mattye is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Allen Lynch of Palmetto, Florida, granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Bennett Ion of Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, and a great-grandson, Bryce Tristan Ion; brother, Bobby Bartley, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lewis Gum, Parents, Exter and Margie Bartley, brothers, Roger Lee, Allen Burke, and James William Bartley, sisters, Elizabeth Irene Spradlin, Emma Hale McCullough, and Lucy May Stein.
