Mattie “Florence” Hammett, age 81, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015 at her daughters home Sharpsburg. She was born May 25, 1934 in Newnan, GA to the late William Daniel Rice and Eula Abercrombie Rice.
Along with her parents Florence is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Newton Hammett, son, William “Bill” Hammett, siblings, William Rice, Lottie Culpepper, Thelma Sweatman and great grandchild Aubry Mattingly.
She is survived by children; Martha Smith and her husband Donald, , Ann Hammett, grandchildren; Khrista Villegas, Marie Lamb, Tony Hammett, Troy Hammett, Kevin Mitchell, Donna Tubbs and Ashley Bass. She is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and brother Steve Rice.
Florence loved spending time with her family and friends. She also loved to cook and had a wonderful since of humor.
