Matthew Meyer, 59, died Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Mercy One Medical Center in West Des Moines.
Matthew was born February 6, 1962, in Moline, IL to Orville “Jack” and Elizabeth (O’Neill) Meyer. The family moved to Des Moines in 1969. Matt attended St. Theresa Catholic School and graduated from Dowling High School in 1980. He began his career with Hotsy Cleaning Systems in 1989, the year he married Laurel Dau. Matt enjoyed golf, woodworking and coaching his children’s sports teams. He also loved having fun with his family and friends camping, biking, and tailgating at Iowa State games. He was a member of the West Des Moines Elks Lodge and the Knights of Columbus. He was always willing to share his talents volunteering or just helping a neighbor.
Survivors include his wife, Laurel; children: Michaela (Mike) Balaski of Des Moines, Alyssa Meyer of West Des Moines, Jack Meyer of Waukee; sister, Michelle Meyer of West Des Moines. Matt was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Patrick.
