Mary Hines VanSlyke, 97, Pendleton, passed away August 3, 2011 at Rawlins House, Pendleton after a brief illness. She was born March 30, 1914 in Howard County, Indiana, and resided in this area since 1948.

Mary wintered in Lakeland, Florida for 18 years. She was a salesperson for Hoyt Wright for 26 years.

Mary was a member of the Anderson First United Methodist Church; Lady Elks Widows Club and the Women’s Circle of the United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children, Sondra “Sue” Max Supica of Saline, Michigan and Richard L. Darlene Hines of Pendleton; six grandchildren, Lisa Rick Helper, Todd Brenda Supica, Allison Supica, Wendy Mike Roberts, Stephanie Joe Ruffin, and Rebecca Scott Hessong; nine great grandchildren and special niece, Mary Ann Robert Gardner of Ft. Wayne. Special thanks to Rawlins House, Fall Creek Retirement Village and Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care.

She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Garland Hines in 1971; 2nd husband, Frank Van Slyke in 1990; parents, Henry & Melissa Barnhisel Schafer; sister, Lucile Meredith; brother, Garland Kline; sister-in-law, Neva Kline and brother-in-law, Lonzo Meredith.
