Mary “Tippy” Elizabeth Fitzwater Knotts McProuty, 87, of Grafton passed away on December 29, 2020 at her home with her family at her side. Tippy was born April 1, 1933 in Grafton, daughter of the late Bertzel Brooks and Elizabeth A. Sloan Fitzwater. She attended Grafton High School where she graduated with the Class of 1952 and was a member of the First Baptist church of Grafton. Tippy was a member of the Eastern Star. She worked for the Taylor County Board of Education as a substitute cook, worked at Foodland in the bakery and several of the local convenience stores. Tippy is survived by her husband William Edward McProuty; a daughter Debra Darlene Knotts Moyer and husband Richard Michael; two grandsons, Matthew Shane Moyer, Jarod Kyle Moyer, all of Grafton; three step children, Tim and Helen McProuty, Zoe and Walt Sayers, Kevin McProuty and friend Pat Weaver, a sister in-law Patsy Fitzwater of Grafton and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her first husband Eugene Hall Knotts; two brothers Albert Lee Fitzwater, Carl Brooks Fitzwater, a niece Patty Collins, and a step daughter Teri Sevier. The family would like to thank Amidestys Hospice, the doctors and nurses at Mon General Hospital and Doctor Wenzel at the Taylor County Medical Center for excellent care given to Mary.
