Mary Susan Gibbs, 79, a loving daughter, wife and mother passed away on March 19, 2024 after a brief illness. She was a native of Texas. She expressed her faith as a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church. She is predeceased by her daughter, Stephanie Ann Freel; husband, Joseph Allen Gibbs; sister, Lucia Ann Williams; as well as her parents, Volney Clyde and Pauline Castles of Ft. Worth, Texas.Susan received her bachelors degree from Virginia Wesleyan College in Virginia Beach, VA. She began her Library Media Specialist career and taught in the City of Chesapeake and later retired from the City of Norfolk. She continued her love for reading and teaching as a volunteer for the Suffolk Literacy council. She was instrumental in the production of the 1993 yearbook for the Chesapeake Fire Department. She will live on in the hearts and memories of son, Stephen Gibbs and wife Patricia; daughter-in-law, Shannon Gibbs; niece, Lynn Williams; granddaughters, Pauline Polly Freel and Emily Dhanvada, grandsons, Zachary and Joshua Gibbs; and many colleagues and friends.
