Mary Rutan
(Horwat), 98, passed away in the Clara Maass Continuing Care Center at West Hudson in Kearny on Wednesday October 28, 2009.
Mary was born in Newark, lived in Harrison then moved to Kearny in 1971. Mrs. Rutan was a founding member of Pathways to Independence in Kearny. Mary was also very skilled at crocheting, sewing and knitting. She made and donated many baby blankets to various neo-natal oncology units in hospitals throughout New Jersey.
Mary is survived by her two sons George D. and Norman R. and his wife Therese. She was the grandmother of Michele Preston and Veronica Baran. She was the great-grandmother of Corey and Edward. She was pre-deceased by her husband George H. and also her sibilings Catherine Burgoyne, William Horwat and Michael Howard.

Departed on Oct. 28, 2009 and resided in Harrison, NJ.
