Mary Rose Jones, 100, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 6:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at her home. Aug. 28, 1913 – Oct. 4, 2013

She was born in Chicago on Aug. 28, 1913, to the late Thomas and Maria (Edgarschitz) Sturm. In 1935, she married Donald R. Jones in Elkhart. He passed away there in the late 1990s.

Surviving are her daughters Sally (Roger) Neely of Edwardsburg, Mich., and Carole Dietz and Kathy Moreno, both of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and even two great-great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband Don, she was preceded in death by brothers Victor, Thomas and Hank Sturm; sister Gizella Duwelius; and grandchildren Mary Widener and Joey Pierport.

A celebration of Mary’s life will take place at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. and funeral services beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery in Elkhart. The Rev. Glenn Kohrman of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church will officiate.

Mary worked at several area companies in her lifetime including Whitehall Laboratories, the Herma-Seal Company and the Elkhart YMCA. She was also a member of Elkhart Women of the Moose 73, the Married Women’s Club and the Pinochle Club. She attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and enjoyed ballroom dancing and the polka.
