Mary Patricia “Pat” Mares, age 94, passed away at her home in Chesterfield, VA on July 16, 2024. She was born on June 26, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Grace Murphy and John Peake. She married Thomas P. Mares, on April 21, 1951. Pat loved her family, faith and community. Throughout her life, she and her husband volunteered at their children’s schools, church, and community, including taking in teens who needed an immediate, emergency, short-term, safe, house, along with supporting many charitable organizations all over the world. In addition to her parents, Grace and John Peake, she was predeceased in death by her beloved husband, Thomas P. Mares; her sister, Barbara A. Donnelly; and three children, Michael (Teresia) Mares, Mary Mares, and Bernard Mares. She is survived by Kathleen Mares of Manassas, VA; John (Marcia) Mares of Aurora, CO; Rev. Philip Mares M.M. of Seoul, South Korea; Anne (Peter) O’Hanlon of Chesterfield, VA; Joseph (Shannon) Mares of Valdosta GA, Peter (Kim) Mares of Schwenksville, PA, and Stephen (Kelly) Mares of Raleigh, NC. Additionally, she is survived by thirty grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren.
