Mary Pappas Summers born July 11, 1924, the beloved wife of the late Gus Constantine Summers and daughter of the late Nicholas and Sophia Pappas of Winston Salem, NC, has departed to join them in heaven on November 7, 2017. Mary leaves five children; Stephen, Keysville, Va., Nicholas (Sandra), Keysville, Va., Gregory (Kathi), Stafford Va., Elaine (Pete Droge), Vashon WA., and Tony (Lori) of Herndon VA; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She also leaves her younger brother Father Arthur Pappas of Glyfada Greece. In addition to co-raising 5 children, Mary found the time to devote to her Greek Orthodox faith serving on numerous church committees including District Governor and National Advisor to the Maids of Athena for the Daughters of Penelope Helle Chapter 283 of which she was a founding member. She also represented her chapter for over 30 years in the Ahepa-Daughters Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet awarding scholarships to graduating seniors in the Metropolitan area and sponsored an award for many years in the name of her late father. After working for various companies in the Greater Washington DC area, she enjoyed working with the Prince William County Police Department and Manassas Public Schools. She loved to bowl, play bingo and travel anywhere but especially to Greece. She believed in her Greek Faith, helping anyone in need, cherished her husband of 60 years and loved and supported her family.
