Mary Helen Connor Odom

September 13, 1940 – December 3, 2012

Helen is survived by her husband of 54 years, Neil Odom, children Christine (Randy) Yergert, Mycha Odom, Randy (Amy) Odom, grandchildren Michael (Jamie Rushing) Coley, Nicole Odom, Lyla Odom and Connor Odom, sister Gayle (Bill) Shanlever, nieces, nephews and extended family & was a 1958 graduate of Fairfield High School. Lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, attending Central Park UMC, Forest Hills UMC, St. Paul’s UMC, St. John’s UMC, Clearbranch UMC and One Eighty UMC. She taught VBS, was a UMYF counselor, sang alto in choir and was active in the United Methodist Women as well as being a Lay Shepherd. She had a long running personal telephone ministry – sharing her love and concern for others. Several years ago she began sending cards of encouragement and support to those she knew.

While her children were in school she was involved as a room mother for each of them. She was an officer of the Erwin HS Band Boosters, and active in the Erwin HS PTA, Athletic Boosters and Choral Boosters. She was an excellent cook, well known for her homemade desserts and corn bread dressing. Helen was a Christ follower who showed His love through her joy and kindness, loving all she knew. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Vincent’s East Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion to other and the family during her extended stay in SICU.
