Mary Margaret Carney, 89, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday March 6, 2016 in Union Hospital. She was born July 21, 1926 in Terre Haute to John J. Carney and Marie O. Doerner Carney. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John J. Carney Jr. She is survived by one sister, Kathryn Sappington of Mooresville, IN.; and sister in law, Jeanette Carney; seven nieces and nephews and several great and great great nieces and nephews. Mary Margaret spent many years as a Sister at Sisters of Providence at Saint Mary of the Woods. Her focus was on education throughout her life, she earned her B.S. from Saint Mary of the Woods College in 1959, her MBA from University of Notre Dame in 1966, her M.S. from Indiana University in 1972 and her Ed. D. from Indiana University in 1974. She was formerly a High School Principle in Indianapolis, IN., and an Assistant Professor at Saint Mary of the Woods College, she was the former Executive Director of Zonta International and Former Executive Director of Phi Lambda Theta, Inc. She formerly was on the Board of Directors of Bloomington Altrusa International, Indiana Adult Education Association, Co-Director of Comparative Education Seminar of Education and Life in the U.S.S.R. and Siberia.
