Mary M. Cox, 90, of rural Virginia, IL died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.

She was born October 4, 1921 near McIntosh, SD; the daughter of Robert C. and Mary Charlotte “Lottie” Puckett Finn. She married G. Russell Decker on November 18, 1943 at St. Luke’s Church in Virginia and later married John R. Cox on May 1, 1993 at St. Luke’s Church in Virginia and he survives.

She is also survived by a son, Charles R. “Chuck” Decker of Normal; two grandchildren, Krista M. (Decker) Kolls (husband, Aaron) of Normal and Erik C. Decker of New York, NY; a great granddaughter, Mia Marie Kolls; three step children, Janet Boyd (husband, Clarence “Fuzz”) of Virginia, John R. “Bobby” Cox Jr. (wife, Wanda) of Virginia, and Sandra White of Jacksonville; 10 step grandchildren; 13 step great grandchildren; a step great great granddaughter; a brother, Gerald Finn of Virginia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her first husband; a step daughter, June Dax; a step grandson; two sisters, Alvenia Sinclair and in infancy, Helen Finn; and three brothers, Leo Finn and in infancy, twin brothers, Robert and William Finn.

Mrs. Cox was a 1938 graduate of Chandlerville High School and a 1939 graduate of Tipps Beauty School in Springfield. She was a cosmetologist for 54 years until her retirement in 1993. A member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church since 1925, Mary has served as a lector, eucharistic minister, and choir member. She was a former president, secretary, andtreasurer of the Walter Reid American Legion Post Auxiliary in Virginia. She was devoted to the Virginia Bar-B-Q celebration for many years and twice served as a co-chairman of the event.
