Mary M. “Marge” (Baker) Arterburn Manning was born September 15, 1927 at DeSoto, Missouri, to Rilla Rowena Baker. After her mother’s death at age 5 she was raised by her grandparents Hiram and Mollie (Hall) Baker Graves at Rolla, Missouri. They moved to Jackson County, Iowa where Mary attended rural school at the Red School House. The family moved back to Rolla where Mary was married for a short time before meeting serviceman, George K. Arterburn of Beatrice, Nebraska. They moved to Beatrice, Nebraska where their children were born and raised. Mary became part of her new community serving as PTA president for Stoddard School and president of the Firefighter’s Ladies Auxiliary. After Mary and George divorced, she married her country school sweetheart, Robert D. Manning and moved back to Jackson County, Iowa where they made their home. They were married almost 40 years, his death occurring in 2013. She returned to Beatrice most recently until her death on February 24, 2017 at the age of 89.
She leaves to mourn her passing the following children: William (Elmeda) Arterburn of Beatrice Nebraska and their children Bill (Bobby) Arterburn of Topeka, Kansas and Christine (Greg) Crannell of Beatrice; G. “Keith” (Fran) Arterburn of Gresham, Oregon and their children Matt Arterburn of Lawrence, Kansas and Julie (Kris) Evensen of Fairview, Oregon; Michael (Lesa) Arterburn of Beatrice and their children Gina (Gary) Barber of Omaha, Nebraska, and Rachel (Jacob) Dostal of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Nebraska; the late Rowena (Mark) Thomas of Beatrice and children Tammie Vacek of Lincoln, Nebraska, Dustin Thomas of Lincoln, and Courtney Thomas of Beatrice. She was blessed with numerous great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her first husband, George Arterburn in 1997, her daughter Rowena “Ronnie” (Arterburn) Vacek Thomas in 1998 and her second husband Robert D. Manning in 2013.
