Mary Louise Stevenson Richardson was born on February 25, 1929, in Marion, Indiana to her parents, Douglas Stevenson and Rosalie Davis Stevenson. She was the first born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brother, Fred and her sisters, Pat, Dorothy and Ruby. As a child, she enjoyed playing in the cotton fields with her brother, she loved going to the movies and just sitting and watch her mother crochet. She received her early education by graduating from Marion High School in her hometown. She furthered her education by attending Bluefield State University in Bluefield, West Virginia. On July 11, 1954, Mary united in holy matrimony to Milton Richardson in Marion, Indiana. They first met at the movie theater.
