Mary Lou Schmitt was born on January 25, 1927, to Maurice and Preble Varnell and passed into heaven on October 16, 2015. Mary Lou has a sweet and gentle soul. She had the gift of hospitality. Having a big sweet tooth, Mary Lou learned to bake. Her pies and cakes were works of art and delicious. Her homemade chocolate ice cream was always a favorite. Mary Lou taught elementary school in a very difficult school. With great mentors, this gentle soul learned how to be tough in the classroom, earning the respect of students and parents.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of over 40 years, Gordon Lewis Schmitt. She is survived by her children, David “Bubba” Schmitt; Gary Schmitt; and Nancy “Sister” Volkert and her husband, Kevin. Mary Lou is also survived by her grandchildren, Rachael Volkert; Hannah Volkert; Aaron Volkert; Nicole Schmitt; and Dallas Schmitt.
Mary Lou will be missed by her family.
