Mary “Lou” Krueger passed away peacefully the evening of March 22, 2016.  She was born October 21, 1931 in the Warren Minnesota Hospital to Mildred and Lloyd Johnston.  She was their only child.  Lou graduated from Warren High School in 1949 and received a teaching certificate from Moorehead State Teacher’s College; now Minnesota State Moorehead.  She taught school in Wahpeton and Mandan, North Dakota, before marrying Don Krueger on November 26, 1952 in Mandan, North Dakota.  In 1953 Don accepted a pharmacy position and they moved to Havre, Montana.  During the nearly four years they lived in Havre, Lou gave birth to a son, Laurence Adam and a daughter, Jo Anne.  They moved to Conrad, Montana in 1956 where they part owned Pondera Drug Store.  Lou, besides being a homemaker and raising the children; she bemoaned that pharmacists were never home; worked at the store and did everything from bookkeeping to sales, ordered giftware, worked the soda fountain and giftwrap and she probably swept the sidewalk a time or more.  She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and was active in the Jaycees, Conrad Community Players theatre group and many other civic organizations.  In 1981 the store was sold, the Conrad house was sold and the couple moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida to live for “no more than five years” where, nearly 35 years later they still reside.  During this time, Lou briefly worked in retail and was the “School Marm” at the original Fort Walton Beach School House.  She received her B.A. in Communications from UWF in 1986 and taught writing courses at the Center for Lifelong Learning for many years.  Lou was an avid reader and a 14 year volunteer at the Shalimar Library.  She was a writer and an artist with a wonderful sense of color and language.  She loved books, theatre, painting, writing and getting together with her many book and writing club friends.

Lou is survived by her husband, Don, of 63 years; son, Larry (Teresa) Krueger of Duvall, Washington; grandson, Adam Krueger of Lynnwood, Washington; daughter, Jodi Kruegar; granddaughters, Mary and Evan Daron and great-granddaughter, Parker Litchfield, all of Pensacola, Florida.
