WINSTED – Mary L. (Baldwin) Brady passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 14, 2016. She was the loving wife of the late James J. Brady Sr. for 63 years. Born on July 9, 1927 in Providence RI to Mary Ann (Grady) and Walter Henry Brace Baldwin, she moved to Winsted in 1939. She was a graduate of The Gilbert School ’44 and the College of New Rochelle ’48 earning a BA in mathematics. She chose to share her love of mathematics with hundreds of students at Northwestern Regional School #7 (1969-90), where she was instrumental in establishing the computer lab and the swim team, which she coached for many years. Mary was also very involved in Girl Scouts, as a leader and as the chair of the Catholic Committee on Girl Scouting. Additionally, she served on the Synod Planning Committee of the Archdiocese of Hartford. Active in her local parish, St. Joseph, she gave countless hours toward the scheduling and training of lectors as well as editing the weekly bulletin and the commemorative booklet for St. Joseph’s 150th anniversary. Among her many other accomplishments was the publishing of her family genealogy, entitled Connecticut Roots. She is survived by her children: James J. Brady Jr. and wife Marion of Chatam, New Jersey, Carol Gaylord of Winchester Center, Maureen Brady and husband Ed Dilan of Tolland, Kathleen Jones and husband Andrew of Winsted, Joseph Brady and wife Mary-Ann of Winsted, William Brady of Winsted, Elizabeth Garrison and husband David of Simsbury, and Thomas Brady of Hamden. She also leaves Julio Valenzuela Cadel of Santiago, Chile, who has remained a part of her family since his high school exchange student experience in 1979. She leaves her grandchildren as well: Matthew Brady, Stephen Brady, Jonathan Gaylord, Kristen Faircloth and husband Nicholas, Kaitlin Dilan, Allison O’Brien and husband Robert, Brian Jones and husband Eric, Stephanie Jones, Erin Clark and husband Joseph, James J. Brady III, Briana Brady, Michael McCann and husband Hiroshi, Kevin McCann, Lauren McCann, Lindsey Garrison, Christopher Garrison, and three great grandchildren, Alexandra Gallo-Plante, and Jonathan and Zacary Gaylord. She also leaves her cousin Mary Malenda and husband John. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Russel Gaylord.
