Mary Juanita Yoch 1925 – 2020   Mary Juanita Yoch was born December 25, 1925 in West Bend, Iowa, the daughter of Nick and Lena (Mersch) Schmalen. She attended Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic School and graduated from the West Bend High School in 1943. Prior to her marriage she was employed at the Iowa State Bank as a bookkeeper and teller. On May 29, 1946, Juanita was united in marriage to Clarence Yoch at Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in West Bend. The couple lived and farmed near West Bend their entire lives, moving to town in 1992. Juanita was devoted to her family and her faith. She was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul’s Parish, a member of the Ladies Aid, a charter member of the St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Court of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and Eucharistic Minister for the homebound. She was a talented seamstress, sewing the clothes for her seven daughters and their dolls. She was an excellent cook and made the best desserts, cherry pies and cinnamon rolls. She was a 4-H leader for many years and served on the Palo Alto County 4-H Council. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, reading, sewing, crocheting, gardening, cooking and playing cards. Juanita passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, IA at the age of 94. Survivors include her nine children: Joyce Greving of Ames; Paul (Cathy) Yoch of LeRoy, MN; Joan Anderson of Urbandale; Janet (Steve) Radosevich of Marshalltown; Diane (Marvin) Davis of Cedar Falls; Mary (Dana) Holland of Marshalltown; Cheryl (John) O’Roake of Newton; Donna (Pat) Seng of St. Paul, MN; and Gary Yoch of West Bend; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Rita Schmalen of West Bend, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence in 1996, sons-in-law Jerry Greving and Craig Anderson, her sister Mildred Adams, and her brothers John and Edward Schmalen.
