HANLEY, Mary Jo, Kalamazoo, MI. Lawton, MI Mary Jo died peacefully Saturday morning, January 22, 2011, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo. She was born October 25, 1926, in Wabash, IN; one of four daughters of Stephen and Peggy Brennan Hipskind.

Mary Jo grew up in Kalamazoo and graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1944. She was a lifelong member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Kalamazoo and St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Marcellus.

She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and neighbor and friendly to everyone she encountered – You could have easily met her in any check-out-line.

Some of her most cherished memories were spent at Gravel Lake going for pontoon rides, watching the grandkids swim and learn to ski/tube or just contemplating the lake from her perch on the deck with Mike. She loved sharing holidays surrounded by family at home in Kalamazoo and meeting up with old friends during the long winters in Clearwater, Florida. Mary Jo was loved for her easy conversation and her genuine enjoyment of people and she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Peggy Ann Campbell. On December 27, 1982 she was united in marriage with Michael J. Hanley, Jr. who survives. Also surviving are: her children, Jo Ellen Jim Shangraw of Rockford, James Vickie Johnson of Kalamazoo and Janis Ann Robert Briggs of Grand Rapids; Mike’s children, Michael Linda Hanley, III of Mansfield, OH, Patrick Sue Hanley of Rochester Hills, Dr. Timothy Sally Hanley of Traverse City, Kevin Deborah Hanley of Kalamazoo and Maureen Patrick Floegel of Winter Park, FL; twenty-two grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Jane Page and Tommie Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
