Mary Jane Planitz, 70, of Jacksonville, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 10, 1940, in Granite City, the daughter of Stephan and Dorothy Tarasovich Graklanoff. She married Andrew Planitz and they celebrated their 52nd anniversary last year.
He survives, along with her mother of Jacksonville; four children, Susan (Herb) Sliger and Cindy Planitz, both of Jacksonville, Lori (Terry) Blome of Springfield and Andrew (Deanna) Planitz of Waverly; twelve grandchildren, Erika Manes, Trevor Blome, Tiffany Smith, Evan Rollins, Kayla Rollins, Stephan Sliger, Hannah Planitz, Noah Planitz, Emily Sliger, Jeremy Planitz, Joshua Planitz and Jordan Planitz; three great-grandchildren, Justyn Thomas, Breana Manes and Jason Manes, Jr.; and one sister, Janet (Ron) Mayo of Dixon, MO. She was preceded in death by her father; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Levy.
Mrs. Planitz was a member of Church of Our Saviour. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America and the American Legion Auxiliary. She had been active in volunteer work, including delivering doorbell dinners.
Mary Jane loved to bake and was an amazing cook. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.
