Mary Jane Phillips Westmoreland, 76, passed away on August 2, 2008 at St. Vincent Hospital after battling an illness for the past two months with her family by her side.
She was born November 1, 1931 in Overton County TN. to John and Isabelle Harvey Phillips. She has been an Anderson resident for 53 years. She had been a member of the Columbus Avenue Church of Christ. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to the park to watch her husband run with the Road Runners. She was a gentle, loving, good hearted person who was devoted to her family. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bennie C. Westmoreland, whom she married September 8, 1954, in Livingston, TN. Three daughters, Carolyn Rondal Wright, Marsha Jerry Savage, and Martha Boles. Seven grandchildren, Michael Amanda Wright, Shane Savage, Lisa Kirk Kercher, Richard Faucett, Shawna Savage, Kasheala Boles serving in the National Guard in Arizona, and Aaron Boles in Army basic training in Ft. Benning, GA. Three great grandchildren, Annalisa, Brett Thomas, and Ashley Kercher. A sister Miranda Phillips. An aunt, Thelma Smith. Five brothers and sisters in law and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Her grandparents, Sherman and Liza Jane Richardson Harvey and Earnest and Winnie Willborn Phillips. A sister, Myrtle Moore, son-in-law, Sam Boles, father and mother in law, Clure and Leada Walker Westmoreland and a brother in law Cullen Westmoreland.
