Mary Jane, daughter of Harry and Esther (Reeves) Sherrard, was born January 30, 1922, in Sioux City, Iowa. She received her education in Sioux City and Des Moines, Iowa. Mary was a supervisor for Bell Telephone Company prior to her marriage to Emmet Montag January 15, 1949 in Venice, California. The couple settled in West Bend, Iowa where they raised their family. The couple moved to Forest City in 1972 where Mary was employed as a dietary cook at the hospital and the school. Mary was a faithful member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing flowers. She also liked reading, sports and crafts and was an excellent cook. Emmet and Mary moved to West Bend, Iowa after their retirement. Mary died May 12, 2020, 98 years old, at West Bend Health & Rehab in West Bend, Iowa. Survivors include her children: Susan (John) Fuchsen of Rockwell, IA, Tim Montag of San Jose, CA, Joe (Kathy) Montag of West Bend, IA, Patric Montag of Dallas, TX, Judy Montag of Forest City, IA, and Phillip (Karen) Montag of Forest City, IA; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Miriam Sherrard of Johnston, IA. Mary’s parents, husband Emmet in 2003, daughter Mary Jane, great grandsons Owen Shramek and Caleb Prentice, brothers Les and Harry Sherrard and daughter-in-law Stella Montag preceded her in death.
