Jane Hanselman, 80 of West Bend died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the West Bend Care Center. Mary Jane Hanselman, the daughter of Howard and Emaline (Walsh) Jergens was born April 9, 1935 in West Bend where she was raised and received her education. After high school, Jane moved to Des Moines where she was employed by Bankers Life Insurance Comapny. On October 24, 1959, she was united in marriage with Richard Hanselman at Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend. The couple lived and raised their family in West Bend. Jane worked at Champlin’s gas station, Schafer’s Grocery Store, Montag’s Cafe, she managed Tommy Tucker Restaurant, and was the Deputy Clerk for the City of West Bend for 19 1/2 years. Survivors include her children: Patricia Gahn (Jon McCuskey) of Mason City, IA, Bruce (Nicole) Hanselman of Woodbury, MN, Barbara (Jeff) Schmidt of Geneva, IL, and Karla (Mark) Schmidt of Eldridge, IA; grandchildren: Tristan and Heather Gahn, Rachelle, Mollie and Nick Hanselman, Jordyn, Madison and Alex Schmidt and Stephanie, Randy and Shelby Schmidt; brothers and sisters: Irene Fredricksen of West Bend, IA, Marge Schmidt of Emmetsburg, IA, Richard “Putter” Jergens of Gilmore City, IA, Robert Jergens of Sumner, IA, Dale Jergens of Guntersville, AL, Janet Bruggeman of Norfolk, NE, Helen Carrigan of Emmetsburg, IA, Judy Habben of Humboldt, IA and Joe Jergens of West Bend, IA. Jane served as a board member on the West Bend City Council and was a First Responder with the West Bend Ambulance Service. was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, West Bend. When her children were young, she and friends loved to take their children on local fishing trips for the day. She enjoyed golfing, bowling and traveling with family,reading and singing in the church choir. She especially enjoyed “happy hour” with her many friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, and her brother Donald. The greatest gift she gave her children was the honor to call her “Mom”.
