Mary Jane Gibson, 85, of Goshen, passed away in her home from natural causes Monday, March 2.

She was born in Dixon, Ky., on March 30, 1929, to the late Robert “Wes” and Estella (Edens) Bumpus.

On Dec. 22, 1945, she married James B. Gibson in Union County, Ky. He passed away in Mary Jane’s arms Jan. 22, 2014, at their grandson’s home, with hospice care.

Surviving are her son, Jerry W. (Linda) Gibson of Edwardsburg, Mich.; her sister, Wilma Kengerski of Detroit; grandchildren Douglas Gibson and Melissa (Steve) Ryker, both of Edwardsburg; and great-grandchildren Kaylee and Courtney Ryker.

Mary Jane worked at CTS in Elkhart for nearly 50 years and was a member of its Quarter Century Club. She also enjoyed bowling, watching sports on TV and spending time with her family and grandchildren, usually gathered around the dining room table.

She was passionate about anything her grandchildren were involved in and inspired them to enjoy baking and cooking, especially Christmas Eve dinner, which was always her favorite and most cherished time of year to spend with her family.

Mary Jane was a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen; she was known for her fried chicken, chicken gravy, mashed potatoes and fried yellow squash, which was grown by her husband.
