Mary Helen DeLaGarza, 88, passed away peacefully with family by her side on February 22, 2014 at Prestonwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Plano, TX. She was born on July 29, 1925 in McAllen, TX to Antonio and Juanita Gutierrez.
Mary Helen moved to Dallas in 1949 where she completed Cosmetology School and began a thriving 50-year career as a hair stylist at Neiman Marcus.
Mary Helen married Jesse DeLaGarza in 1951, and they were married for 53 years. She was known for her strong, brave, spirit and lived life with vigor and passion, putting her children and grandchildren first in her life.
Mary Helen is survived by her brother, Lupe Gutierrez; children Jesus DeLaGarza (Debbie), Carlos DeLaGarza ( Courtney), & Christina Perron (Michael); and her 8 grandchildren; Madeleine, Isabella, Jacob, Grayson, Alexa, Tim, Tony, & Angela.
Mary Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse DeLaGarza; brother, Joe; sisters, Rose, Josephine, Meme, & Julia.
The family would like to thank those at the Prestonwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Plano, TX, as well as Hospice Plus, who lovingly cared for her until the end.
