Mary F. Lloyd, 78, of Elkhart, died at 5:55 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 1, 2009) in Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Oct. 30, 1930, in Columbia City to Merie W. and Mary E. (Denison) Kyler. On June 12, 1960, she married Robert J. Lloyd in Columbia City.

He survives along with one son, Robert M. (Pamela) Lloyd of Pontiac, Mich.; one daughter, Beth (Ronald) Laughman of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Carol) Kyler of Columbia City; and two sisters, Virginia (Robert) Stanley and Catherine (Leroy) Hawn, both of Columbia City.

One granddaughter, Felicia Reason, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Lloyd was a teacher in Larwill and Roanoke and at Southwestern Michigan College, The Elkhart Career Center and Elkhart Central High School, from which she retired. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Findlay (Ohio) College and her master’s degree from Indiana University, Bloomington. After retirement, she worked part-time as a bookkeeper at Allen’s Insurance Agency for six years.

Mrs. Lloyd was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Goshen, and the Indiana and Elkhart County Retired Teachers Associations. She was a member and past secretary and treasurer of Heart City Kiwanis. She helped with the AARP 55 Alive program and had played in the Thursday evening golf league at Old Orchard Golf Course. She enjoyed gardening and collecting bears.
