Mary Evelyn Saffles, 87, of Burbank, died Sunday, June 3, 2018 at her home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
Mary was born Jan. 28, 1931 in Akron to the late Aaron E. and Laura (Deaton) Storey and was a graduate of Akron North High School in January 1949. On June 18, 1949 she married Donald D. Saffles and he preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 2010. Mary retired in 1996 from the Akron Automobile Club after 31 years of service where she served as Assistant Manager, Treasurer and Vice-President. She and Don moved to Burbank in 1975 where she attended Trinity United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women. Over the years Mary was active in the PTA at Jackson Elementary in Akron and was a Past President of the Alpha J’s, was a Scout Den Mother, was a member of the Glass Club and the Creston Garden Club. She had sold Avon but will be remember most for being a faithful wife, a wonderful mother and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Brad Robson of Burbank; grandchildren, Elesa (Josh) Eaken, Keith (Amber) Saffles and Kevin Saffles; great-grandchildren, Skylar and Taylor Staley and Joy and Grace Safffles and her sister, Margaret Beight of North Canton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a son, James Saffles in 1995.
