Mary Elizabeth “Polly” Woods

September 23, 1934 – March 4, 2018

Mary Elizabeth “Polly” Woods (nee Donnelly) of Colorado Springs was born on September 23, 1934 in Camden, NJ and passed away on March 4, 2018.  Polly is survived by two children, Patrick Neil (Bonnie) and Peggy Steinemann (Chris); two stepchildren, Dan Woods (Katie) and Jane Olivier Benson (Dave); her brother, Michael Donnelly; ten grandchildren, three great-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Woods; her parents, James and Agnes Donnelly; her sister and a brother, and two grandsons.

Polly moved with her family from Philadelphia to Los Angeles via ship in the early 1930’s.  She attended St. Anselm Catholic School where she made life-long friends and, while at Manual Arts High School, Polly developed her beautiful singing voice.  She was a soloist in the Glee Club and sang professionally at local piano bars and many friends’ weddings after graduating high school in 1952.

In her early adulthood, and again after her children were grown, Polly worked as an office clerk, most recently with Riverside County Schools in California prior to moving to Colorado in the early 2000’s.  Since moving to Colorado Springs, Polly was active in the Marine Corp League Ladies Group and the Red Hat Society, and volunteered at the local elementary school.

Polly’s grandchildren were the light of her life and brought her great joy.  Her favorite hobbies included quilting and cooking and one of her fondest memories was taking a trip to France to train at a cooking school there.  Polly loved to tell a great story and truly never met a stranger.
