Mary Elizabeth Phillips, age 83 of Grosse Ile, MI, passed away July 27, 2020. Beloved wife of 57 years to the late Edward. Loving mother of Bob (Mary), Michael (Patti), Diane (Ken) Abbott, and Jennifer (Joe) Engle. Dearest grandmother of 7 and great grandmother of 6. She is also survived by her sisters Ellen Fackler of Ashland, OH and Karen Curfman of Alexandria, VA. In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by brothers Jack and Bob graduated from Ashland, OH high school in 1954. She later migrated to Dearborn, MI where she worked as a secretary for Ford Motor Company. On September 7, 1957, Mary wed the love of her life, Edward, and in 1958 moved to Grosse Ile. There she would raise their 4 children and later return to the workforce as the kids approached their teenage started work within the Grosse Ile School system in the mid 1970’s, substituting at the central office, spending time in the cafeteria’s, and eventually retiring as a secretary to the principal’s office. She was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church and the Grosse Ile Garden Club. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, bridge parties, gardening, and watching the birds.
