Mary E. Layfield, age 92, of Clarksburg passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at River Oaks. She was born April 27, 1923 in Columbus, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Theodore and Mable Heath Bitterbender; she was he last surviving member of her family.
Mary is survived three sons, Butch and Jean Layfield, Douglas Layfield all of Clarksburg, James Layfield of Stonewood, WV; daughter, Wilma Hurst and John Fiscus of Ravenna, OH; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Layfield, who died in 1992; daughter, Barbara Wilfong; one sister, Laura Bittenbender; two brother, Theodor H. Bittenbender, Herman Bittenbender.
Mary retired in 1998 from the Sheraton Inn in Clarksburg. She was a member of the Salvation Army. She enjoyed spending time with her family and playing cards.
