Mary E. DeVelde, age 88, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away Sunday, November 20, 2020 at Franciscan Health East, Lafayette, Indiana. Mary was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on March 7, 1932, the daughter of Clarence and Clara (Harley) Smith, both deceased.
Mary was a graduate of the Fair Oaks High School class of 1951. Mary then attended the Kankakee School of Nursing. Mary worked as an LPN for Dr. O’Brien for 14 years and then at Jasper County Hospital in Alterna Care. Mary was a member of St Luke’s Lutheran Church in Rensselaer.
Mary is survived by her children: Daniel (Susan) Hammond of Parr, Steven Hammond of Rensselaer, Albert James “Jimmy” DeVelde, and a daughter-in-law Sarah Hammond of Indianapolis; 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, a son David Hammond, a granddaughter, and a brother.
