Mary-Ann Stewart slipped her earthy bonds on Mother’s Day 2021 to rejoin her one true love, Arthur Lester Stewart, for eternity. The two were parted for 44 years and everyone agrees that was long enough. Our dear mother is the personification of Kindness and Grace. Though she lacked a middle name, if one can be given posthumously, Tenacity would be it. There was no quit in Mary-Ann Stewart. None in her early years, none in the middle and certainly none in the end. Although she missed Arthur terribly from 1977 onward, she simply focused on her children and pressed ahead. Mom never stopped working on her family’s behalf. We can feel her now in heaven pulling strings, making calls, and reminding us all will be well.

Mary-Ann Reid was a child of the South. Born in Salem Virginia, she never tired of reminding us she descended from one of the First Families of Virginia. Mannered and gentle at all times, our mother rarely lost her temper. When she did, her voice dropped to a low whisper and she would abbreviate the mildest curse words to initials only, generally with hilarious affect. The counter point to her intrinsic kind heart was her steely resolve in the face of adversity. She faced the task of raising four successful children with grace and perseverance. After raising her children Mary-Ann entered the work force with gusto and left begrudgingly nearly 50 years later wishing she could work more. After retiring from her beloved KG Men’s Store, Mom
embarked on a new career with H+R Block at the tender age of 75. She retired again 17 years later, but never wanting to be bored she wished she could do more. A life-long learner, Mary-Ann was constantly studying the ever changing field of Tax Accounting. If Heaven has a library,
Mom is there now trying to decipher IRS codes from the last 20 years and beyond. It’s difficult to describe our Mother’s ability to persevere – she was tireless for the vast majority of her days.

Mary-Ann Stewart follows her beloved sister Maria into the afterlife. Her 4 children; Karen Elizabeth Shearer of Golden, Dianne Leslie Buhrer (Mark) of Morrison, John Arthur Stewart of San Diego CA, and Thomas Marshall Stewart of Littleton were holding our dear mother at the time of her ascent at 1pm, March 9, 2021. She is treasured and missed by six grandchildren (Brandi (Jason), Arthur (Cecilia), Colleen (Bill), Jeremy, Elijah and Lily) and 8 great grandchildren (Zoey, Lindsey, Isaiah, Diego, Sebastian, Mia, Braden and Milo) and one supernatural puppy named Rocco.
