Mary Ann Bennett, 85, of Springfield, IL, and formerly of Ashland, IL died Monday, March 16, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born March 15, 1930, in Springfield, the daughter of Leo T. and Helen Lyons Leahy. She married Kenneth William Bennett on April 12, 1958, at St. Augustine Church in Ashland and he preceded her in death on December 28, 1983.
She is survived by a son, Leahy Bennett (wife, Teresa) of Pleasant Plains; four grandchildren, Desiree King (husband, Justin) of New Berlin, Colleen Flinn (husband, Tim) of Pleasant Plains, Kenneth Bennett (wife, Cassandra) of Pleasant Plains, and Torie Bennett of Springfield; four great-grandchildren, Moxon King, Gunner and Collins Bennett, and Cashin Flinn; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Leahy.
Mary Ann was a 1949 graduate of Pleasant Plains High School. She cherished her time spent as a dedicated farm wife, devoted mother, and loving grandmother. She was the fourth generation to care for the Leahy Family farm and supported her family, her husband, and their son in the farming operation. Her favorite pastime was spent capturing her life in photos and carefully displaying those pictures in treasured photo albums. A devout Catholic, Mary Ann was a long-time faithful member of St. Augustine Parish in Ashland.
