Those left to honor Martin’s memory are his wife of 47 years, Jane; oldest son and his family, Daniel, Colette, Alexandria and Elizabeth of Baxter; second son and grandson, Dewey and Brandon of Baxter; daughter and family, Deanna, Court, Eva, Daniel and Christian Garloff of Center Point; third son and family, Martin, JoAnne and Lea of Newton; and fourth son and wife, Joseph and Rhaellyn of Newton; his brother and wife, Homer and Pat of Marshalltown; brother-in-law, Charles Grout of Newton and sister-in-law, Virginia Kunkel of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin B. and Eva M. (Resch) Kunkel; brother, Richard Kunkel and sister, Joanne Grout.

Martin was drafted on April 10, 1957 into the U. S. Army. He served in Karlive, Germany with the 595th Med. Co. as a Medical Specialist for two years, and remained in the reserves until discharged on April 9, 1963.

Martin was educated through the eighth grade at Haverhill, graduated from Van Cleve High School in Van Cleve, and went two years to a trade school in Kansas City, Missouri.
