Martha Tatum Newsom, 71, of Newnan passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015. She was born June 13, 1943, in LaGrange, GA to the late Seth Newsom & Mary Lou “Sue” Gilreath Newsom.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Seth Newsom, Jr. Martha was a 1961 graduate of LaGrange High School. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in education. She remained an avid Auburn fan throughout her life and considered herself their number one fan. Ms. Newsom taught elementary school in Coweta County for 30 years. She began her teaching career at Howard Warner School and spent the majority of her career teaching career at Elm Street Elementary School and retired after teaching several years at Newnan Crossing Elementary. She was an avid doll collector who was well known for her collection.
She is survived by her sister, Mary N. Estes of LaGrange, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
