Martha “Granny” Morales Stewart, age 93, a loving mother and matriarch of five generations, passed away in Boerne, Texas, on October 31, 2008. Born on October 4, 1915, in San Antonio, TX, she was the daughter of Everardo Morales and Anna Clara Brunig Morales. Moving to Boerne in the early 1950″s, she opened the first Mexican Restaurant, Martha”s Caf?, on Main Street in what is currently Johnny”s Feed Store. Granny spent her last thirty six years living on the Cibolo Creek. An admirer of birds and nature, she loved the outdoors. She could revive any plant or tree and had a green thumb like no other. Granny always greeted you with a warm smile, home cooked meal, and a gift, if you were under 10 years of age. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but will be cherished by many memories and wonderful thoughts. Preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Charlie Stewart in 1982, and son Walter C. Saldana, Mrs. Stewart is survived by five daughters, Espie Kientz of Portland, TX, Tina Bradley of San Antonio, TX, Margaret Riess and her husband, Robert, of Austin, TX, Martha Healy and her husband, William, and Bita Rosenbush and her husband, Melvin, of Boerne; 19 Grandchildren; 23 Great Grandchildren; 13 Great Great Grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. She was a surrogate Granny to those that were fortunate enough to know her and be a part of her life.
