COLEBROOK –POWELL – Martha Glynn Powell, 97, died February 5, 2009, at the Torrington Health and Rehabilitation Center. A longtime resident of Colebrook, Connecticut, she was born May 30, 1911, in Brooklyn, New York, to Elizabeth Reilly Glynn and Mark J. Glynn. Her family moved to Colebrook in 1920. She attended Weaver High School and Trinity College in Hartford and, in 1930, received a scholarship to attend the Art Students League in New York City. She lived for many years in Florida and other places before returning to Connecticut in the late 1960s. A talented artist and avid reader, she loved books, conversation, and the view of Gaylord Pond and the trees and hills from her kitchen window. She will be greatly . Powell was preceded in death by her five brothers and sisters. She is survived by a son, John H. Powell III of Decatur, Georgia, and a daughter, Elizabeth V. Powell of Orlando, Florida, as well as three nieces, a nephew, and two grandchildren.
