Martha Emma Bauer of Hebron formerly Fairbury, Nebraska the daughter of August and Caroline (Heller) Fangmeier was born December 2, 1916 in Gilead, Nebraska. She departed this life Monday October 11, 2010 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 93 years.
Martha grew up in the Gilead area, attending District #97 grade school and two years at Gilead High School and then to Hebron graduating with the class of 1935.
Martha enjoyed gardening, baking, and helping with the election with the Republican Party.
Before she was married she was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gilead, NE playing the organ. She was now a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury, NE and helping on various committees.
Martha married Elden Bauer on November 26, 1959. The couple adopted 2 children. Martha was his life partner, and helper in all that he did. The couple stopped farming in 1994 and moved into the parsonage in rural Gladstone on the ground they owned after the church closed. They planted roses where the church once stood and are proud of the beauty they provide.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elden in 2006, four brothers; Martin, Arthur, Eldon, and Norman, and one sister Ruth Pohlmann.
She is survived by one son Monty and his friend Donna of Fairbury, NE. and one daughter Theresa Kapke and husband Dennis of Fairbury, NE. One sister Adelaide Paysen and husband Jim of California, grandchildren; Carrie Portenier and husband Doug of Leavenworth, KS, Carmen Brahmer and husband Mark of Pierce, NE, Matthew Kapke and wife Darcy of Fairbury, NE, Christina Cole and husband Neil of Fairbury, NE, Jesse Bauer of Fairbury, NE and Elliott Bauer and wife Miranda of Trenton, TN great-grandchildren; Hope, Heather, and Cole Portenier, Jaci, Maggie and Benjamin Brahmer, Shaun, Bret, and Cobie Cole, Ryan Bauer, and Regan and Rylie Kapke, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
