Martha Black, 75, of Fairview, formerly of Galesburg, died at 2:08 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Cottage Hospital. Martha was born on April 1, 1932, in Canton, the daughter of James and Lois Shaw Gonterman. She married Robert Black on July 28, 1959, in Las Vegas, NV. He died in 2001.
Surviving Martha is 1 sister Louise Ward of Fairview; 4 nephews: William (Anita) Ward of Fairview, Howard (Peggy) Ward of Rogers, AR, James Ward of Canton, and Jackson Ward of Fairview; several great-nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death was one sister. Martha graduated from Canton High School and worked as a dietary worker at the Mental Health Center for 41 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of AFSCME retirees.
