CANFIELD – Marlyn W. Ibele, age 86 of Canfield, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in Canfield. She was born August 29, 1931 in Cincinnati, the daughter of the late Carlo and Mildred Weber. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati, where she met her husband, Walter. Last December they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Following teaching in the public schools for several years, she turned to teaching knitting, something she first learned to do as a child. Marlyn made countless sweaters, many of which won ribbons at the Canfield Fair and was rarely seen without knitting needles in hand, or nearby. She attained Master Knitter status from the National Needlework Association and the Knitting Guild of America. She started the first Knitting America Guild in Ohio, which still exists today, called the Western Reserve Guild. Marlyn also enjoyed traveling with trips to Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Alaska and accomplished her goal of visiting all 50 states. She even got to fly in a hot air balloon and parasail.
She was a lifetime member of the Knitting Guild of America and a charter member of the Western Reserve Knitting Guild of Canfield. She served as Superintendent of the Arts and Crafts building at the Canfield Fair for six years, and was a member of First Christian Church in Salem.
She is survived by her husband, Walter; sons Clint of Highland Heights, KY, Lyndon (Janyce) of Anchorage, AK, and Dan (Erin) of Petoskey, MI; two grandchildren, Daniel and Aubrey; a sister, Martha and a niece and a nephew.
