Mark Fullam,72, passed away in the early morning hours on Friday, November 17, 2006. Born to Mark W. Fullam and Jeannette Neuwirth in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Fullam is survived by: Tim, Miriam, Adrianna and Garrett Fullam of Lenoir, NC; Mary Jane Fullam of Deerfield Beach, FL; Sue and Kit Nast of Pensacola, FL; Sharon Fullam and Douglas Donnigan of Royal Palm Beach, FL and Karen Fullam and Christina Richert of Tampa, FL. Mark Fullam served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. An accomplished athlete and scholar at Rhode Island College, Fullam received the John E. Hetherman Award, signifying him as Rhode Island College’s top male senior scholar and athlete in 1960. Upon earning his bachelor’s degree in 1960, the Woonsocket native embarked on an impressive career in education spanning 36 years. In 1963, Fullam traveled to Iran as a Fulbright Scholar and taught English at the University of Meshed. He returned to Iran in 1967 and worked at the Tehran American School as a teacher and coach, Athletic Director, and later as Assistant Superintendent. During this time, Fullam also served as President of the Middle Eastern Schools’ Athletic Association. In 1979, following the Iranian Revolution, he returned to the US to teach in Hollywood, FL. Fullam retired in 1996 and traveled between RI and FL with his companion, Joan Paddock of Warwick, Rhode Island. He was inducted into the Rhode Island College Hall of Fame in October of 2001. He was a wonderful father, mentor, and leader. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
