Mark E. Teofilo,50, of West Haven passed away in New York on Sunday December 18, 2011. He was born on October 22, 1961, son of Mafalda Laudano Teofilo and the late Emmanuel Teofilo. Brother of Thomas Teofilo, Lucille (Jim) Portley, Robert (Donna) Teofilo and Andrew (Audrey) Teofilo. He also leaves behind 10 nieces and nephews. Mark graduated from Notre Dame High School in West Haven. He earned Degrees in Education and Performance from Western Connecticut State University and Morehead State University. Mark was the Director of Percussion Studies at St. Francis Preparatory School in Fresh Meadows, NY since 1986. In 2002-03, Mr. Teofilo was honored with Prep’s Excellence in Education Award, bestowed upon teachers who display a high degree of dedication to the learning and growth of their students. Mr. Teofilo was a highly regarded authority and consultant in both the orchestral and marching percussion idioms. His ensembles have earned appearances on FOX 5-TV’s Good Day New York and ABC 7-TV’s Good Morning America telecasts. His percussion students have earned numerous top honors in (USSBA), the United States Scholastic Band Association championship competitions, as well as annual NYSSMA events. An accomplished classical percussionist and timpanist, Mark performed for such famous dignitaries as his holiness Pope Benedict XVI and his holiness Pope John II, President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton, Mayor Rudolph Guiliani, Cardinal Edward Egan and Cardinal John O’Connor.
