Mark Aloysius Montag, 83 of West Bend died May 17, 2017 in West Bend, Iowa. Mark Aloysius Montag, the son of Al and Agnes Duffy Montag was born October 10, 1933 in West Bend, where he was raised and educated, attending parochial school until the 8th grade and graduating from the West Bend High School in 1952. Mark served his country in the Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage with Laura Lemon November 19, 1955 in Alexandria, VA. Mark farmed, then owned and operated Mark Montag Excavating and later in life, he and Laura drove motor homes across the country. He also drove and transported many vehicles for West Bend Ford throughout the years.

Survivors include his children: Deb (Mark) Johnson of Milford, IA, Diane (David) Gerber of West Bend, IA, Don Montag of West Bend, IA, and Dennis (fiancée Angela Ripley) Montag of Fonda, IA; grandchildren: Matthew (Sarah) Johnson, Carl (Sara) Gerber, Annette (Jay) Benedict, Daniel (Ali) Johnson, Amanda Gerber, Andy (Susie) Montag, Callie Gerber and Travis Montag; 12 great grandchildren; twin brother Marvin Montag of West Bend, IA; sister Maxine Laubenthal of West Bend, IA, and brother-in-law Donald (Jill) Lemon of Edinburg, VA , and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, wife Laura in December of 2006, brother-in-law Marvin Laubenthal, sister-in-law Allie Montag and niece Mary Harper. Mark was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church as well as the Knights of Columbus, the West Bend American Legion, the “Roadrunners” and served as State President of the Land Improvement Contractors of America. He was an avid NASCAR Racing fan, a longtime volunteer for the West Bend Chamber of Commerce and always loved a good buffet.
