Marjorie Joyce (Cooper) Esserman, age 87, of Valparaiso passed away November 15, 2011, at Portage Porter Campus-Portage Hospital, Portage, Indiana.

Marjorie was born February 9, 1924, in Gifford, Indiana, the daughter of David Lloyd Cooper and Elsie (Haniford) Cooper. She had lived in Valparaiso since 1953, and previously lived in Steger, Illinois.

Marjorie was a 1942 graduate of Bloom Township High School, Chicago Heights, Illinois. After graduation she worked at Lockheed Company, Los Angeles, California from January to August, 1943.

Marjorie enlisted in the U.S. Navy where she served as a W.A.V.E. during World War II. Upon her honorable discharge from the U. S. Navy she attended Valparaiso University, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949. She later studied at the University of Denver, Denver, Colorado. On August 2, 1953, in Denver, Colorado Marjorie married Edward Esserman who survives. She was a teacher in Valparaiso for several years,. She had taught fifth grade while living in Steger, Illinois.

Marjorie loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, was a member of National Wildlife and a lifetime member of the Democratic party. She attended the United Methodist Church in Valparaiso and was a former member of the Valparaiso Women’s Club.

Surviving with her loving husband Edward are two daughters, Suzanne Esserman, Speedway, Indiana and Victoria Myoda, Wilmington, Delaware and her granddaughter, Sabrina.
