Marjorie J. Puckett, 85, of Galesburg, died at 9:48 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2010 at Cottage Hospital.
She was born on October 15, 1925 in Monmouth, the daughter of R. Earl and Marie M. (Bacon) Grant. She married Raymond J. “Tony” Puckett on September 25, 1948 in Corpus Christi Church, Galesburg. Tony preceded her in death on October 23, 2006. Marjorie is survived by a son, Mark Anthony Puckett of Galesburg; 3 daughters, Debra (and Ed) Merten of Graysford, TX, Melanie (and Jim) Verheyen of Galesburg, and Tina Puckett of Cameron; a grandson, Grant Oyler; and a granddaughter, Ashley Puckett. She was preceded in death by a brother.
Marjorie graduated from Roseville High School and Cottage Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She worked as a surgical nurse at Cottage Hospital for 6 years. She also worked at Bergner’s and as a Manager at Snelling and Snelling Employment Agency, where she was awarded manager of the year. She last worked at Wal-Mart for 15 years, retiring on October 1, 2005.
Marjorie was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a charter member and past president of the Elkettes. She was also a member and past president of the Jayceettes and the Junior Women’s Club. Marjorie was also a member of the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, and a board member of the Carver Center. Her hobbies included playing bridge and rose gardening. Marjorie also loved her pets and antiques.
