Obituary of Marion Taylor Files
Marion died on July 2, 2005. She was born September 23, 1907, in Jena, LA, to Harvey Taylor and Minnie Lanier Taylor.
The last surviving member of her generation, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Az Taylor, and her three sisters, Lucille Steadman, Lena Moore and Audrey Wiley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Earnest Files, Sr.
A graduate of Jena High School and Louisiana Normal College, Natchitoches, LA, Marion taught school in Oak Ridge before working for the U.S. Postal Service for 41 years, the last 30 years as Postmaster. She was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, and served as church treasurer for 56 years. Marion was notably active in the postmasters’ association, the Caddoan and Pierian Clubs, W.M.U., Oak Ridge Community Council, and the Abram Morehouse Chapter of the DAR.
Her favorite pastimes included spending Sundays with her family, working in her yard, superb needleworking, traveling and cooking. Many will remember her candy and pie-making skills (especially carmel pie and angel cake).
Survivors include her son, James E. Files, Jr. and his wife Joyce, granddaughters, Ann Elizabeth Files, Nancy Lanier Files Counts and husband, Dr. Jeffrey R. Counts, and great granddaughters, Katherine Elizabeth Counts and Caroline Taylor Counts.
