  • Date Of Death: September 27, 2019

Marion “Mick” Joseph Martek passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, September 27, 2019 at the age of 81 years. Marion was born in Bay City, Michigan on January 21, 1938 to the late Charles and Mary (Koczanasz) Martek. Marion was a four-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked at both GM’s Saginaw Metal Casting Operations (Grey Iron) and the former Saginaw Nodular Iron Plant for over 45 years. He retired in 2006. He was a proud member of the UAW, Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Polish Falcons of America and the American Veterans.

Mick lived his entire life in Bay City except for his years in the Air Force. He enjoyed a zest for life and was always up for a good cigar to relax and share stories of his days in the service and working in the foundry. He loved watching his Lions and Tigers play and was always up for a good movie. He was admired for his quiet strength and his straight forward way of cutting through to the heart of a problem. Wherever he went he always ran into someone he knew; so much so that it became a family joke that he must have had a secret life.

Marion is survived by his four children, Kris (Renee) of Canton, Kelli (Louie) Roth of Bay City, Kyle (Jodie) Martek of Midland and Kari (Keith) Aikens of Kawkawlin, and many grandchildren, nephews, nieces and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Sally of 41 years who passed away in 2006.
